22/09 - The second Caravan for Integral Ecology of the network Iglesia y Minería visited COMECE and engaged in a dialogue meeting with representatives of the EU institutions on the impacts of mining and extractivism on local communities in Latin America. The dialogue meeting with the representatives of the institutions of the European Union was organised by COMECE, CIDSE and the European Laudato Si’ Alliance (ELSiA).
The delegation was headed by H.E. Mgr. Noel Antonio Londoño Buitrago, Bishop of Jericó (Colombia).

NEWS | COMECE Legal Affairs Commission exchanges on the Directive on non-profit associations and the Rule of Law 2023 report

28-29/09 - The COMECE Legal Affairs Commission reconvened for the second meeting of the year. Among the topics that were addressed in dialogue with the European Commission, to be noted are the new proposal for a Directive on non-profit associations and the Rule of Law 2023 reporting cycle.
Experts also discussed with a parliamentary representative the ongoing discussions on the legislative proposal to fight against online child pornography.
Reflections were devoted to the evolution of EU jurisprudence on discrimination on grounds of religion, with particular regard to the wearing of religious symbols at the workplace. GDPR remained a priority, with an exchange of updates on the national contexts. The event took place in a virtual format.

19/09 - Thank you to H.E. Mgr. Sanctus Lino Wanok, Vice-President of the Bishops' Conference of Uganda, who visited our Secretariat. We had a fruitful discussion on the current situation in the African country and on possible opportunities for a closer collaboration especially on inter-religious dialogue and Laudato Si' implementation. He was received by General Secretary Fr. Manuel Barrios Prieto and adviser José Luis Bazán.
